  1. I’ve tried to find the best metrics to track for Stagetimer for like 3 years now. Finally I’m happy with it. To save you the same agonizing journey I wrote down the ones that worked and the ones that didn’t. Thread 👇

Good Metric #1: Total Users, Customers and Rooms. People call them vanity metrics, but I like them because they are a big morale boost. I love seeing a big number of users 😍.

Good Metric #2: Daily activity. Not just of unique users, but also core features (daily active rooms for us). You see them go up and down during the week and year. Helps to know what months and weekdays are most busy. Also shows when your industry is on vacation 😄.

Good Metric #3: Conversion rates of visitors-to-users and users-to-customers. Often called “the funnel”. Especially helpful when they go down after a change, so you can revert quickly.

Bad Metric #1: CURR! I was obsessed by this Duolingo dev post: lennysnewsletter.com/p/how-duolingo-reignited-user-growth But CURR is hard to calculate and completely useless! Because you have no idea what factors actually affect it. It just goes up and down and you’re left guessing.

Bad Metric #2: Customer satisfaction (or NPS score). Big corps need them because the foot doesn’t know what the hand does. But you are one person. Just have a 30 min call with a customer and you will learn more about your product than with 100 NPS surveys.

Bad Metric #3: Customer Churn. Of course it’s important to know. But churn has a thousand causes. It’s ridiculously hard to know what drives up churn, and sometimes it’s just holidays and out of your control. Better do a few customer calls each month to keep your product great.
